Homosexuality

Time and again there are people asking the Government not to criminalize homosexuality and to be more liberal with gays.

Legalize (or decriminalize, same or not?) homosexuality? Will it mean we may see two men hugging in a train. Or will it be ok to put up advertisements for gay parties at bus-stops.

A letter in yesterday’s papers said in the west there were homosexual teachers telling their classes it is normal to be homosexual. If it happens here, would we accept it?

Has anyone been jailed or prosecuted for his homosexuality? I think no, right? What homosexuals do behind closed doors or in the privacy of his home, no one will bother. You think the police so free to go and investigate people’s private life.

The Government are not interested in people’s homosexual activities. But they don’t want people to promote and publicize homosexuality or its activities or to influence the young.

I believe the Government will let go slowly and quietly. But if some of these people try to push too hard, I think the Government would decide to remain status quo.

There's nothing weird about the 6 things you mentioned in the other post. But Spore is certainly getting weirder - actually scarier. There was a time when we needed only to worry about our daughters getting molested. Nowadays, even boys get molested.

Frannxis, pls don't follow Chris and Victor's foot steps and do a disappearing act. Although I don't really appreciate the Canto operas, still its good to 'see' old, familiar faces on the blog.

a. What's wrong with it? Does it makes you uncomfortable like couple holding hands make some societies feel uncomfortable.

Or will it be ok to put up advertisements for gay parties at bus-stops.

b. Why not? Just like a Zouk party poster will make some societies uncomfortable

A letter in yesterday’s papers said in the west there were homosexual teachers telling their classes it is normal to be homosexual. If it happens here, would we accept it?

c. Why not? The teacher did not say it is a must to be homosexual. It is normal to be homosexual just like it is normal to have six fingers or one parent.

d. Has anyone been jailed or prosecuted for his homosexuality? I think no, right?

No, but if someone actually reports such behaviour, the police will be oblidged to take action or if the person is a convenient target, (e.g an opposition member) he can be persecuted based on that. Just ask Anwar. Or on a letter basis just ask Steve Chia when he was investigated by police for possessing "Pornography" and had his computer confiscated.

e. What homosexuals do behind closed doors or in the privacy of his home, no one will bother. You think the police so free to go and investigate people’s private life.

See Above.

Before we cannot promote holding hands, marriage were arranged and modern fashion were discouraged.

And

Stop being Paranoid Mr Lam.

Just because homosexual laws are legalized, molestation of anyone is still a criminal offence and should be so.

I have many homosexual friends and have never been molested by them.

Let the law remain. The homo can do what they want but definitely I hope the committe will not recommend legalizing them.

Homosexual behaviour is currently illegal whether they can do what they want or not. The fact that they can do waht they want doesn't make it any more acceptable. All it needs is a strong organization with support at high places to bring the law into place. On the same side of the coin. We used to think that downloading MP3 while illegal is acceptable because the police are 'closing one eye'. Now the RIAA is biting hard and people are being charged and persecuted.

Homosexualism is illegal based mainly on religious lines. Lets also ban masturbation and enforce putting on headscarves. While we are at it, lets introduce stoning for adulturers as well.

Just my personal view - homos hugging in public places is repulsive and I certainly won't want a homo teacher telling my children it is ok to be homo.

Surely they will study the implications and repercussion. Even if they let go as you say I think all these will not be allowed.

Well, Foreign Devils holding hands with local girls is repulsive to many too.

Shall we outlaw it as well?

Frannxis, I prefer statue quo, if not more strict also never mind.

Gee, there are so many anonymous comments here that they sound like only one person talking to himself/herself. Quite weird. Maybe it really is so. Hahaha.

May I suggest that people who want to comment should at least identify themselves with their initials (just like what ms did above). Otherwise we can't quite follow who is saying what.

LCS, worry not I have no intention of doing any disappearing act.

Vic, it is all right. Look like they are just expressing their personal views - there is no absolute right or wrong. They are not debating pros and cons.

Well, as our society comes of age, this is one othe problems our leaders have to tackle. In the past, the stance by the gahmen is that homosexuality is definitely wrong. This time round, while they aren't really saying that it's is right, they are saying that perhaps homosexuality is something that some bloke are born with, juz like how some people are born left-handed. If you are born the way you are, you can't help it, can you? So why labeled them criminal? It's a question of whether it is nature or nurtured. And this is something still being debated by scientists. My view is that while we do not endorse the alternative life-style of the gays, we should also learn to be more tolerant. But there's always a line where the boundary is pushed. Hard nut to crack. But sorry, since I'm not one of top ministers in the Civil Service and is excluded from the pay increment, I dun think I should think up solutions for the gahmen. Hahah

Victor:
Nothing wrong with more then one pple wanting to remain anonymous. Be magnanimous like francis and stop whining.
