Opera nite @ the Serangoon
There were 5 songs and 2 excerpts. Of the 8 singers I have only heard 2 of them sang before. All the singers sang well, better than I expected. The two excerpts were also well-performed.

I noticed the photos and comments are for CTC actors and actress. The two excerpts were performed very badly by余丽明.

Hi Frannxis, actually there are 2 nights, sat and sun. The one you watched is on sun. The sun show is better. Most of the singers and performers are good.
Comments should be given based on the performance instead of criticizing personally.
We should highlight the performers' areas for improvement than just give the remarks of "good" or "bad".

I agree we have the right to say anything, it is our freedom. But don't hurt people, this is considered as defamation.
Any comments should be pointing to matters not personally.
People who comment should be take responsibilities.

本人正在学「自焚」這首曲，剛巧有朋友告之有此折子戲于Serangoon North CC 演出,我抱着觀摩的心情前往。
一般觀眾是捧自己朋友場而去觀看,但我不是,因所有的表演者我都不認識。是晚的演出很有水準,除了一對合唱稍為遜色外,其他很值得你花一晚的時間去觀賞。
我大胆評論「自焚」,整套折子戲是根据蓋鳴暉及吳美英的vcd為藍本,「生」表現不過不失,「旦」畧勝一籌,她的唱腔,声調,感情很像「自焚」的原唱者梅雪詩,我比較喜歡她多過吳美英。
現在cc 有很多粵曲粵劇表演,全台有份量及水準的不多,而這次Serangoon North CC 的表演,算是有水準的了。希望日後有更多有水準的表演來滿足粵劇觀眾。

CTC supporter, please give full support to the shows performed by CTC members..whether good or bad, still.... yehhh...yehhhhh....
I found some of the Cantonese Opera audience are quite narrow-minded, pointing to which troupe or group.
Please be open-minded to give comments on performance, performers' areas for improvement etc.
Cantonese Opera audience will feel shame if there are continue personal criticization.
Frannxis, please give your opinion on it.

I think it is ok if we like certain artistes or group but we should not let this affect our views and say others are no good.
Because of this, some comments are personal ones. So, Janet, don't let them bother you too much.
People will generally support artistes who are serious and have put in a lot of effort although they may not be very good. They will encourage them and also tell them their short-comings, "You are good but try to improve in this area or that..." No need to be harsh.
But in class or during practice, I think the teacher should be strict and criticize the students if necessary.
我没想到只是一场普通的演出却引來如此风波, 不过无论怎样我很感激网上几位为我抱不平的朋友.
我学习粤剧本是为了兴趣而已,而且我对粤剧的认识尚属肤浅,倘若我的演出表现有所欠佳,请各位多多包涵,如果是诚意的批评,我是非常乐意接受的.
我亦希望粤剧界的朋友能互勉互历,合作使本地的粤剧发扬光大.

Just ignore them.
常言道「好心做壞事」,估不到這次是「壞心做好事」。一句「the two excerpts were performed very badly by 余麗明」掀起了一些粵劇觀眾的回响,有抱不平的,有正義感的。
所以,應該多謝這位作「壞心」的朋友,他做了一件好事。善哉,善哉。
